An Overview of Royal Bhutan Airlines

Tashi Air Pvt. Ltd, trading as Bhutan Airlines, is Bhutan's first private airline. The airline resumed services on 10 October 2013, beginning its first international flights to India and Thailand. The airline served the cities of Jakar and Trashigang in Bhutan from their commencement until June 2012, suspending them due to increasing financial losses; however, following an agreement with the Bhutan government, the airline has resumed a full schedule of flights including Kolkata to Paro, Bhutan.

Bhutan Airlines’ parent company is Tashi Group.

Bhutan Airlines- Tashi Air Pvt. Ltd, Bhutan’s first Private Airline came into existence after the Tashi Group of Companies, outbid other joint venture companies and won the License to operate Airline Service both Domestic and International Sectors.Tashi group of Companies was founded by Late Dasho Ugen Dorji in 1959 with the vision to bring out the best of Bhutan.The group believes in bringing in Changes without disturbing and in keeping with the His Majesty’s guidelines for development and growth in the kingdom.
On 4th December 2011, Tashi Group of companies welcomed the arrival of Bhutan Airline’s (Tashi Air Private Limited) first aircraft, A Pilatus PC12 with capacity of 8 Passengers for domestic operations.
It started International fights on 10th of October 2013 with an A320 aircraft with 150 passenger seating capacity from Paro to Bangkok and began operating to Kolkata sector on 7th December 2013.

Checkin Services in Royal Bhutan Airlines

Bhutan Airways’ Ccheck-in counters open 180 minutes prior to flight departure. Guests travelling in groups (9 or more guests) are advised to report to the airport at least 120 minutes prior to the flight departure.
Check-in counters for Bhutan Airways are closed 45 minutes before departure time for all classes. Passenger, who has not reported to the airport by 45 minutes prior to departure, will be offloaded from the flight and have their seats released for guests on standby.
In order to maintain schedules, the boarding gate will be closed 25 minutes before departure time. Passenger who does not report at the boarding gate will not be boarded.

For your convenience, your bag will be tagged to its final destination (subject to applicable Security & Customs regulations)
Passenger will have to pickup and clear their bags through Customs at the first port of entry.
For Passenger who have through checked-in to one of our airline partners out of India and Bangkok, You need to inform our counter prior to check-in and while reaching to transit station you need to check with the transit carrier whether your bag has been reached there or not.
Bhutan Airlines will make every attempt to maintain scheduled departure and connections. However, in the event of delays and misconnection, Bhutan Airlines cannot be held liable.

Baggage Allowance on Royal Bhutan Airlines

Baggage Allowance determination and excess baggage charges calculation apply to baggage to be through checked from the point of departure to the point of arrival without stopover at any of the intermediate points. If passenger takes a stopover at an intermediate point, a new assessment of baggage allowance and baggage charges, if applicable, will be measured from the point of departure following the stopover.

Hand Baggage

PLEASE ENSURE THE CARRY-ON BAGS IN THE CABIN DO NOT EXCEED THE DIMENSIONS OF 55 CMS X 40 CMS X 20 CMS AND A MAXIMUM WEIGHT OF 7 KGS.

Duty free items purchased at the airport of departure in Bhutan will be permitted for carriage on the aircraft only if they are:

Carried in uniquely identifiable bags (bearing the name of the Duty Free Shop and the inscription "Duty Free Items") with a cash receipt attached to the bag.

The Duty Free Shops are responsible for the safety and security screening of Duty Free items purchased by passengers and will ensure they are delivered to the concerned passengers at the gate of the aircraft.

If passengers are transferring to another flight at any point on their journey or at destination, or deplaning from the aircraft at a transit point, where they are required to go through security checks once again, duty free liquids, and gels exceeding 100 ml. and purchased in India will not be permitted. However, items purchased in that country, at the airport of departure will be permitted as per the local laws.

To ease your journey, we suggest that most items are placed in your checked-in baggage, except items of value and those required on-board the aircraft, are carried in your hand baggage.

In addition to one piece of cabin baggage or package, you may also be permitted to carry the following items, subject to Security Regulations:

  • Lady's hand bag.
  • An overcoat or wrap.
  • A rug or a blanket
  • A camera or a pair or binoculars
  • Reasonable amount of reading material for the flight.
  • Infant's feed for consumption during the flight and infant's carrying basket if an infant is carried.
  • Collapsible wheelchair or pair of crutches or braces for passenger's use if dependent on these.
  • A gift item purchased from the Airport duty free shop.
  • Walking stick.
  • Umbrella (Folding type)
  • Feeding bottle.
  • Shaving kit, excluding razor blade and straight razors.
  • Medicines required during Flight like Asthma inhaler etc.
  • Laptops.
  • Cell phones.

An odd sized cabin baggage not conforming to the specified dimension will not be allowed in the cabin. Such baggage will be removed at the gate / boarding point, Will be affixed with a "Limited Release Baggage Label" and will be loaded in the hold.

Children (above 12 years old) are entitled to the same cabin baggage allowances as adults.
