About Port Blair City

Port Blair on South Andaman Island is the capital city of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, an Indian territory in the Bay of Bengal. Its seafront Cellular Jail, completed in 1906, hints at its past as a British penal colony and is now a memorial to Indian independence activists. Surrounded by tropical forest and rugged coastline, lively Port Blair serves as the provincial capital of the Andamans. It’s a vibrant mix of Indian Ocean inhabitants – Bengalis, Tamils, Telugus, Nicobarese and Burmese. In Port Blair and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, tourists can visit the multitude of beaches, and islands. Activities like snorkelling and boating can be done in the region. Presently it serves a major base for the Indian navy and Indian coast guard.

Nice to knowCommercial fishing is banned on the Andaman Islands.

Things to do

Best time to visit - Port Blair enjoys a tropical monsoon climate and can be visited throughout the year. However, the summer and winter seasons (October to May) are great for adventure and water activities.

Bhopal is a city in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It's one of India’s greenest cities. There are two main lakes, the Upper Lake and the Lower Lake. On the banks of the Upper Lake is Van Vihar National Park, home to tigers, lions and leopards. Bhopal is a town which steps into the future with a rich heritage and vibrant history tracing its footsteps. It is highly ornamented with the majestic mosques which showcase classic Mughal architecture such as the Taj-Ul-Masjid, one of the largest in India, built by the third female ruler Bhopal had, Shah Jahan Begum, Moti Masjid and many more. The city will also catch your attention through its breathtakingly beautiful havelis and museums as well as nawabi food that is an absolute delight for foodies. The city is also a reminiscence of a tragic disaster in the chemical plant of Union Carbide that took a toll on multiple lives.

Modern, with wide roads, upmarket shopping complexes, and plush hotels and restaurants nestled comfortably in the Arera and Shamla Hills, which overlook the lakes and the old city beyond. The central district is known as New Market.
