Once identified as the summer capital of Bihar, Ranchi was also known to be a hill station during the British rule owing to its altitude of 2140 feet, umpteen waterfalls plummeting from pretty hills and the ever so pretty winding rivulets. Jorhat is a major city and one of the important urban centres of the state of Assam in India. Jorhat is one of the fastest growing cities of Assam after Guwahati. Famous for its culture, mosques, tombs, gardens and most importantly - its tea plantations, Jorhat is also known as the tea capital of India. The beautiful, commercial, cultural and artistic city of Jorhat is the second largest inÊAssam. Tea plantation is the main agricultural activity of the city which also takes shape of a tourist attraction given its simple natural charm. There are as many as 135 tea gardens in Jorhat. Jorhat's rich culture and heritage combined with the numerous places to see makes it a major tourist attraction. Summers in Jorhat are hot and humid with temperatures ranging between 15 to 28 degrees Celcius. Avoid visiting Jorhat during this time. From July onwards, monsoon season sets in. Incessant rainfall is observed till September. The best time to visit Jorhat is the winter season in which the temperature is not too low. The weather is pleasantly cool to explore the city.
