Being in a different country can be exciting but a little intimidating too. Whether you are on a holiday or a business trip or travelling for any other reason there are several steps you can follow to ease your overseas journey.
Here are our top 10 international travel tips
#1 Six-Month Passport Rule
Most countries don’t allow travellers into their country if the passport expires in six months. Why? If for any reason you get stuck in their country for a longer time than planned then they would want to ensure that you have a valid passport so you can travel back to your country.
To avoid any problems renew your passport during your downtime in travel say about 9 to 10 months prior to the expiration date.
#2 Hotel Business Card
The first thing to do when you arrive at your hotel is to take a business card from the front desk so even if you get lost on your way you know where to come back.
#3 Fraud Alert
Notify your credit card company about the destination you are travelling and the specified dates so they don’t assume your card is stolen and block it just when you require it the most. Do not forget to mention the countries you might be changing planes during your layover.
#4 Medicines
All countries you travel would have drug stores but why would you want to run around in the middle of the night looking for medics you could have easily carried and if you’re travelling to a third-world country then stocking on the right drug is even more important.
Also, carry earplugs and eye mask in your medicine bag.
#5 Travel Alerts
Better to check the State Department’s travel warnings and alerts before you confirm your bookings. Also, take out a print of the address and contact information of the local embassy.
#6 Data Roaming
Avoid international data roaming by setting up your cell phone. If you frequently travel overseas then it’s better to get an international calling and data plan.
#7 Google Maps
It’s always safe to carry a map with you and if you rely on your cell phone to get around and don’t have data on it then use your hotel Wi-Fi and plot out a few routes you plan to travel that day and simply take screenshots for further use.
#8 Carry Local Cash
Not every place accepts cards, especially places like buses or trains.
#9 Pack An Extra Set Of Clothes
Pack an extra set of clothes or two in your carry-on bag so even if the airline misplaces your luggage you have an extra set till you get your luggage back.
#10 Bring Snacks
Experiencing new experiences abroad is fun but eating in a foreign country can sometimes prove to be a task. Bring small dry snacks that would do until you find that perfect restaurant or two.
Happy Travelling :)
