Bangalore’s just got closer to Hampi, thanks to new direct flights via TruJet. The low-cost carrier just began the hour-long connections between Bangalore’s Kempegowda International Airport and the Jindal Vijaynagar Airport in Vidyanagar, which is an hour’s drive from Hampi. A UNESCO World Heritage site, Hampi was previously accessible from Bangalore only via rail or by road. A one-way ticket on the new flights currently begin at Rs999 including taxes.
While Bangalore’s Kempegowda International Airport offers the shortest flight to Hampi, TruJet also offers direct connections to the ancient capital from Hyderabad. Clocking in at 75min, the Hyderabad-Vidyanagar connection is currently available from Rs999 including taxes for a one-way ticket. Until Trujet’s new flights from Bangalore and Hyderabad to Vidyanagar, the closest airport to Hampi was in Hubli, a four-hour drive away.
Travellers most often visit Hampi to see the majestic ruins of the once-opulent capital of the 14th-century Vijayanagar kingdom. There’s also bouldering for adventure buffs, or take a coracle across the Tungabhadra River to Anegundi, for birdwatching, handicraft and bicycle rides.
