To take a step towards monitoring the costs and fuel consumption of a flight, a UK base startup has proposed a distinctive solution- to weigh the passengers on board.

It is an initiative rolled by the startup and aims at cutting carbon emissions, costs and fuel consumption as well.

The Berkshire based firm, Fuel Matrix is in contact with the airlines in the long run for the common benefit. It mentions the pressure pads. A technique to weigh the passengers discreetly before they flee the airport.

Later when the data has been collected by the means of these pressure pads, it will be provided to the flight deck for pilots. 

It will help them to calculate the exact numbers for the amount of fuel required for the flight or even for every plane as well.

It is proposed that these pads will be best utilized when placed at the baggage drop section or body scan machine.

This is being done considering the fact that the fuel consumption depends on the amount of load to be carried on an aircraft. And this in turn decides the amount of carbon to be emitted.

As of now, the weight on an aircraft is estimated by using standard data. This says that for men the average weight considered is 88 kg and for women the average weight is 70 kg and for children it is 35 kg.

Fuel Matrix adds that this calculation is not apt and can be made better.

Though the flights carry one percent extra fuel per flight but the portion of fuel consumed as per the huge requirements makes a difference.

To surprise, this idea of weighing passengers is not new for aviation industry.

The similar examples have been suggested and implemented to some levels in Somoa Air, Uzbekistan Airways and Finn Air as well.
