The Agatti Airport serves the union territory of Lakshadweep. Located on the southern end of Agatti Islands, it is the sole airstrip in the archipelago that was constructed in 1987-88. The airport was initially housed in a temporary structure and it was in 2006 that the construction of related structures was commenced. Only the Turboprop aircraft can safely operate on the Agatti airport due to runway restrictions.
The airport is linked to most parts of the country connected by direct flights to and from Kochi and Bengaluru.
An extension of the airport is proposed and the Airport Authority of India has already received environmental clearance for the same.
