Kannur International Airport is an international airport serving the district of Kannur at Mattanur, one of the northern districts in the state of Kerala, India. The airport spreads about 2,300 acres (930 ha). It is located 28km east of kannur, near the municipality of Mattannur. The Kannur airport is expected to serve more than one million passengers annually and authorities estimate the number will increase five-fold by 2025. On the inaugural day, 9 December 2018, an Air India Express flight IX 715 (Boeing 737-800) took off to Abu Dhabi at 10:13 (IST), becoming the first commercial passenger aircraft to depart from Kannur International Airport. It is estimated that a large percentage of the district population is employed overseas, which is projected to increase in the coming years. The Government of Kerala has taken the initiative to develop the fourth International Airport at Mattannur, 25 kilometres from Kannur, which has been built and is owned and operated by Kannur International Airport Limited on Public Private Partnership model. Kannur has a number of tourist attractions including beaches, hills, temples and other monuments.
The new Kannur International Airport will tap the vast tourism potential, aid the textile industry, and help students/research-scholars apart from 'non-resident' Indians, expatriates, business travelers, IT professionals and corporate magnates, and enhance the region's position as an international tourist destination.

The integrated passenger terminal building measuring approximately 10lakh sq. feet, is basically at 3 levels: Basement level, Arrival and Departure level with fly over of 750 m in length.
It is one of the most modern facilities, which is unique of its kind the “Swing Facility”, which means terminal could be either operated as a domestic terminal or international or both, because of the presence of sliding glass partitions in between.
The terminal is equipped with self-check in counters and self-baggage dropping machines.
The integrated terminal building could be expanded into modular fashion where an average of 1 sq.km of land is available for future expansion.
It has Green LEED certification as Green Building concept is adopted in the design of the terminal building.
The terminal building has been equipped with retail outlets, food and beverage outlets, duty free shops (to be commissioned shortly), money exchange counters and international lounges along with VIP lounges.
The peak hour passenger capacity is 2000 including both international and domestic.
